LDG completed the design for the two single span bridge replacements – I-80 over RJ Corman Railroad.
Construction of dual 144’ long prestressed concrete I-beam bridges with 45’-4 ½” curb to curb widths on concrete abutments with spread footings founded on rock.
LDG completed the design for the replacement of two single span structures carrying Interstate 80 eastbound and westbound over the R. J. Corman Railroad. The existing structures spanned the railroad which is located in a steep faced rock cut. The new structures feature an increased span length that locates the abutments farther away from the rock cut to ensure long term stability of the structure, despite ongoing material loss from the faces of the rock cut. The project involved close coordination with Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC), and the R. J. Corman Railroad. LDG completed PUC Step 1 and Step 2 submissions to the Department and participated in a PUC field investigation and conference. Resulting design incorporated the PUC findings and provided a solution that met the needs of the Department, the PUC, and R. J. Corman Railroad.
